Christmas Nativity Scene - Cross Stitch Heirloom

I can't believe that it was way back in 1996 that I stitched this beautiful picture of the Nativity.

I purchased this Bucilla kit from an Avon catalogue. It was designed by Nancy Rossi.

I have it hanging in my bedroom for eleven months of the year but always hang it up in the dining room in December.

It is after all what Christmas is all about.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and All The Best for 2011.

Thank you for visiting.

Passing Down Family Heirlooms

This framed cross stitched picture was my gift to my mother on her 70th birthday.

It is called Poppies and Apple Blossoms -
 a Louise Gregrie Original.

Poppies were always one of my mother's favorite flowers.

Ten years later when my mother was down sizing she returned the picture to me.

Knowing that my sister in law had always admired the picture; I presented it to her the following Christmas.

This picture is now a genuine heirloom. It has been passed down from one generation to the next.

Thank you for visiting.

Heirloom Cross Stitched Pillow Cover

Peter and the Wolf Cross Stitched Pillow Cover
My grandmother cross stitched this pillow cover for one of her great granddaughters over thirty years ago.

The scene on the pillow cover depicts the
children's musical story "Peter and the Wolf".

The musical was written by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) who was born in the village of Sontsovka in the Donets region of Ukraine.

My grandmother imigrated to Canada from Ukraine in 1933. She was over seventy years old when she cross stitched this pillow cover.

I am not sure where she got the cross stitch pattern. I can only assume that she had this pattern for some time and that perhaps it was sent to her by a relative in Ukraine.

Thank you for visiting.

Creating My First Cross Stitch Heirloom

I started cross stitching about twenty years ago and have been in love in the craft ever since. Needing a picture for my kitchen I spotted this kit called "Willowware Classic" by Bucilla at a local craft store.

I did not know a thing about cross stitching before I took on this project. Several months after I completed it I entered it at a local craft fair competition and won a "Best of the Show" ribbon.

From this my first completed project I developed my interest in picture framing which led me to become a professional picture framer.

Over the years I have worked on many more projects, some of which are proudly displayed in my home and others that I had given away as gifts to family members.

I will be showing more of my completed projects in future blogs. Each of my projects are beautifully framed and have their own unique stories.

Thank for visiting.
